Carbon Coco | Activated Charcoal Teeth Whitening

Carbon Coco. Ever heard of them? I had only vaguely heard of them before they contacted me and offered to send me a product to review.

So, they sent me the Ultimate Kit which consists of:

  • Carbon Coco Original Tooth Polish

  • Toothbrush

  • Spearmint Activated Charcoal Toothpaste

  • Tongue Cleaner

  • Pull string bag

  • Instruction card

Carbon Coco | Activated Charcoal Teeth Whitening

The instructions they sent state that results can be seen after 7-14 days. It says to use the toothpaste each morning in place of your normal toothpaste and then the powder and then the toothpaste each evening. This allows time for any black residue to dislodge overnight. So, first of all, let’s try it out.

The powder is very dry but loosens as it mixes with the saliva in your mouth. The powder feels a little bit abrasive to begin with and there is a feeling that reminds me of nails scraping down a blackboard. However, this isn't severe and doesn't last long. Be careful as you spit, the black mixture splashes widely!

The toothpaste is black but turns into white foam while brushing, and it has a pleasant, minty taste.

Here is some additional detail about the product:

  • All Carbon Coco products are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free!

  • The Activated Charcoal Tooth Polish (the powder) is made of finely milled Organic Coconut Activated Charcoal with a hint of Bentonite Clay and Lemon Myrtle. I am told that it is proven to be very gentle yet effective in detoxifying the mouth and removing stains!

  • The Activated Charcoal Toothpaste doesn’t contain fluoride but does contain activated charcoal! It is designed to protect your teeth from further staining throughout the day, so if you love coffee and coloured drinks, continual use of the toothpaste should prevent re-staining

Carbon Coco also suggests using this instead of your regular brand after the 14-day treatment to maintain your results.

So, as of today, this is what I am going to do and I will check back in after 14 days.

Results:

In terms of results there are three main points that I wanted to talk about.

Firstly, I have whitened my teeth in the past using alternative products. Those products worked and took me from feeling incredibly paranoid to a more confident smile. I think this makes it a little more difficult for the whitening to work and to see the difference. However, my teeth weren’t perfectly white so there was certainly room for improvement.

For me personally, I can't confidently say 'yes, this works wonders'. However, that’s not to say that it hasn’t worked. It just hasn’t worked as well as I was expecting it to, based on the myriad of reviews I have seen on YouTube and Instagram.

Interestingly, the telling factor for me is that other people have noticed the difference. In the last week or so, several people have commented that my teeth are looking whiter and brighter, and you can’t argue with compliments like that!

The kit I received is available online for $59.90 which is about £35 British pounds but there alternative kits which include the oil pulling.

If you are interested in trying this product, my observations and tips from my experience are:

  • Be gentle. You are required to brush your teeth for 3 minutes and whilst the brush is incredibly soft, scrubbing at your teeth and gums with the tooth polish, the powder, can make your gums a little sore.

  • It may depend on your teeth and gums but I found that I could use this at any time of day as I didn’t find any particular residue to be noticeable. However, very close up, I could see some of the charcoal under the edge of my gums.
