Slimming World – Week 5

Lakeside Scone

As the picture above may allude to, this week has been a mixed bag of on plan/off plan. In addition to some planned events, I have, somewhat shamefully, used food as a mechanism for celebration, but when you are a foodie like me, that is just what we like to do. I say ‘somewhat shamefully’ because when you are on a weight loss journey, it isn’t the recommended thing to do, however, Slimming World is a way of life and my journey is about utilising the plan as a structured method to lead a healthy lifestyle and maintain a healthy relationship with food, whilst hopefully losing some lbs along the way.

Result:

2.75lb gain.

If you read my previous post you would know that, following an unprecedented reduction in my weight last week, a gain was expected, which now means that overall I am 5.75 lbs down from my original weight. Whether one would be happy with that overall loss depends on which way you look at it.

As an actual matter of fact, it is a small loss and some people lose twice that amount in their first week, however, although when you break it down it equates to around a 1lb loss per week, it’s headed in the right direction and if I continue the way I am, I will have reached my target weight loss in 21 weeks, being around the end of May. Now, that may seem a long time, especially to lose ‘only’ 21lbs, but the reality is that I haven’t really felt like I’ve been on a diet for the last 5 weeks. The food I have eaten has been tasty, easy to make and filling, and alongside all of this there have been takeaways, wobbly days and being completely off plan.

And so...

To me it seems that being able to draw that line and get back in the diet saddle has enabled me to continue down the right path. Previous Slimming World endeavours have seen the psychology of dieting unravel my whole weight loss attempt. I remember that this was often because of feeling that a day off had completely ruined what I was doing so it didn’t matter anymore; with hindsight this seems rather bonkers but so many of us admit to feeling this way.

Going back to the theme of my Slimming World – Week 3 post, avoiding those self-destructive thoughts and forgiving yourself for synning really can keep you on the straight and narrow; of course, if it were as easy as that we would all be at target... In any case, it feels good to feel that I’m on the right road and I wish all of us on this journey a wonderful Slimming World week.

Should you wish to recreate it, here is the link to the recipe for the Mince with mushrooms & onions & salad with mozzarella.
